The Village of Port Williams believes that volunteers are an integral and significant part of rural life in our Village. Our Volunteer Award Program was initiated in 1995 by the Village Commission in memory of the late Harold B. Legge who served the Village as a Commissioner so faithfully for more than sixteen years. In 2009 our Program became associated with the Provincial Volunteer Award Program which is sponsored by Recreation Nova Scotia.
Looking at the 2015 nominations is a wonderful example of how the volunteers in our community have made a difference, provided leadership and made incredible role models in our Village. All of the Volunteers nominated will be formally recognized at the Village's Annual Meeting in June; however, only one of the Volunteers nominated will represent the Village at the 41st Annual Provincial Awards Ceremony hosted by the Province of Nova Scotia at the Westin Hotel in Halifax on April 7, 2015.
Congratulations to Brian Tupper, nominated by the Port Williams & District Lions Club and the Community Centre Board of Trustees, who has been chosen as this year's Representative Volunteer. This nomination was also supported by the Port Williams Women's Institute and the Port Williams Recreation Committee. Brian will be honored at the Provincial Volunteer Awards Ceremony in Halifax and will also receive the Harold B. Legge Volunteer of the Year Award in June.
We would like to express our appreciation to the volunteers who were nominated and welcome everyone to join us at the Village's Annual Meeting where we will be formally recognizing Brian Tupper and also Vera Thomson nominated by the Port Williams TOPS group.
